The Broadcast Basement's "Top 14 Songs of 2014"

Another year and another list of what we think were the Best Songs of the Year. The rules are simple, and yet obviously annoying to our fans outside of the USA. The song has to have been either released in 2014, or have enjoyed its initial peak US airplay in 2014. Some of these songs got big in other parts of the world in 2013, and 2012...and one in 2011. But, as we are based out of Chicago, Illinois, USA...we go by when it was new to us. Relax, we're experts at this.

We did this last year too. See?

So, relax and enjoy our Top 14 Songs Of 2014 as we release them between now and when the ball drops to kick of 2015!

The Broadcast Basement is an awesome 30-minute long weekly podcast that you should check out. It is available on Stitcher Radio, iTunes and at BroadcastBasement.com.

Our #14 Song fits in the category of songs released outside of America well before this year, but it finally charted and was a thing here in 2014...

#14 - Bad Blood by Bastille

#13 - "Car Radio" by Twenty One Pilots
"Cause somebody stole my car radio and now I just sit in silence."

#12 - "I Don't Want To Be Here Anymore" by Rise Against
Great song, with a must-watch video.

#11 - "Happy" by Pharrell Williams
Why? Because we're happy...

#10 - "The Feast and The Famine" by Foo Fighters
Great song, great album, great promotion with the great documentary on HBO. Great.

#9 - "Stolen Dance" by Milky Chance
This year both Wild Bill and Chris found out how hard it actually was to sing this simple song in an episode of The Broadcast Basement Podcast at BroadcastBasement.com

#8 - "I Wanna Get Better" by Bleachers
"So now I'm on the overpass, screaming at the cars...I WANNA GET BETTER!"

#7 - "Do I Wanna Know" by Arctic Monkeys
Missed the list last year as it was just gaining steam at the end of 2013, so now it gets onto the 2014 list.

#6 - "Back To The Shack" by Weezer
"Turn off those stupid singing shows. I know where we need to go: Back to the Shack!"

#5 "Come With Me Now" by KONGOS
Released overseas in 2011, this song finally became a thing in 2014. Aged to perfection.

#4 - "It's About Time" by Young The Giant
"Lights low, go on baby go, it's a bad time, I'm on a tight rope! Don't Go! It's about time!" - What are they talking about?! Who cares. The song ROCKS!

#3 - "Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars
Who's Mark Ronson?

#2 - "Riptide" by Vance Joy
The kooky Australian video does no justice for this very cool tune.

#1 - "Something From Nothing" by Foo Fighters
Recorded here in Chicago, and easily the year's best song.

That's our list. Hope you enjoyed it. Be sure to subscribe to The Broadcast Basement Podcast on iTunes, Stitcher Radio and at BroadcastBasement.com! See you in 2015!

Week 11 Fantasy Football Waiver Adds

Stuck in the doctor's office today with the six year old that had me up all night coughing, I am forced to simply list some waiver targets for this week in fantasy football.

The big news is that The Broadcast Basement's own Wild Bill finally won this week. After drafting a team of only players named Johnson or Robbie Gould (originally called the "Gould 'n Johnsons"), his now named "Worst Team Ever" was constructed from Waiver Wire suggestions that I also have provided weekly in our bonus podcast "Basement Fantasy Football" every Tuesday on The Broadcast Basement Podcast Feed.

I said I could get him 2 wins this year. He needs to win 1 of his next three to get that second win. Here's the best available guys out on the Waiver Wire this week. I marked players available in our 16-team expert and listener league - The BFFL - with an asterisk (*) for those of you looking for players in large leagues.

QB

1. Mark Sanchez
2. Josh McCown *
3. Kyle Orton
4. Zach Mettenberger
5. Teddy Bridgewater *

RB

1. Charles Sims
2. CJ Anderson *
3. Branden Oliver *
4. Jonas Gray
5. Theo Riddick *

WR

1. John Brown
2. Cecil Shorts
3. Greg Jennings
4. Allen Robinson
5. Preston Parker *

TE

1. Kyle Rudolph
2. Mychal Rivera
3. Coby Fleener
4. Jared Cook
5. Austin Seferain-Jenkins *

Our Semi-Annual Beer Episode on The Broadcast Basement Podcast is out this Thursday. Good luck this week in fantasy football, unless you're playing me.

- Chris Lanuti

Friday

Wild Bill's Giant Stein

In the episode "Beer Me, Soccer Dad" the guys describe the giant Oktoberfest Stein that Wild Bill will be using during the season. This is it with a beer poured in.

Lots of room left.

What? You got here but never listened to the episode? Well check out The Broadcast Basement Podcast immediately...or we're telling.
